Woman removes roommate's access to WiFi and shared kitchen appliances in retaliation for refusing to pay rent for half a year: "The freeloader has absolutely no remorse for her actions"

I am so thankful to be out of the roommate-era of my life. Sure, I live with my partner, who sometimes feels like roommate, admittedly. While we don't always see eye-to-eye on what is considered a clean apartment or how big the laundry pile should be before one of us does it, we at least don't have to write our names on food we don't want the other to eat or make a chore chart. Since we buy most things together, we also don't have to worry about the other getting more use out of a singular appliance. 

In our story today, a woman retaliates against her freeloader roommate's refusal to pay the rent by limiting her access to household items that she has paid for. Microwave? Gone. Wifi? Disconnected. Internet users urge her to simply move out or get a lawyer involved, but it seems like she's more of a fan of petty revenge. Scroll down to get all the details.

    I'm the only one on the lease and the head of the household. I take care of all the bills, including the late fees when my roommates are late or just refuse to pay.

    Removing all the dishes and kitchenware. We paid for them and whenever she did the dishes (or had her oldest do them) there would still be food and grease on them and I'd have to wash them again before even using them.

    theft, refused to find work or follow the rules, has more than tripled our electricity which was $30 prior to her moving in and almost $200 in the winter, wont contribute to anything, and we had to have a fourth roommate move in (which we don't have the space for) just to cover her rent.

    My landlord is aware and refuses to take action. I believe that when you have kids they are entirely your responsibility. They are also the only reason I didn't take further actions to have her removed in the winter

  • It's definitely hard to take action when there are children involved, but this living situation isn't fair to them, either.

    shunkaha0192 OP I tried going about it the civil way. After the first 3 months when I gave her a notice and she refused to leave, the cops refused to remove her as well and said it was a civil matter. Been struggling to keep the bills paid since, could barely afford food myself for a while. But hopefully soon I'll be able to contact a lawyer regardless thank you for the feedback!

    Wolverine 97and23 NTA! wish you could just change the locks, but that would be legal trouble for you. She has you wrapped around her finger using her kids as leverage. You can make it noise unfriendly, or start the legal process.
